Guidelines and Judging Criteria

Parade units must be in place by 11:00 am, which is two hours before the start of the parade.  Parade judging takes place at 11:00 am.

 Parade Entry Fee

  • Entrants participating in the Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival Parade will be charged an entrance fee of $50.00.  Nonprofit organizations and visiting community-based festivals are exempt from this rule.
  • Commercial entries (those that advertise a product, business, or company outside Frankenmuth City limits) will be charged a commercial entry fee of $300.00.
  • Exceptions: Participants in certain levels of Bavarian Festival Sponsorship Packages ($300.00 or more).

All entry fees collected are used for the direct cost and improvements of the Bavarian Festival Parade. If in doubt about your entry fee status, call the Festival Office at 989-652-3378.

All parade units are required to maintain a forward motion at all times. NO maneuvers will be allowed that slow the forward movement of the parade. ALL marching bands should maintain a cadence of 120 bpm at all times.

All units should stay no more or less than 25 feet from the unit before them. Your cooperation will be appreciated by the parade committee and the viewing public. The Parade Marshal assigned to your unit will help with proper spacing. Keep a forward movement at all times, even if a television camera/reporter approaches. They will walk along side your unit.

To qualify as a float, an entry must be skirted and all objects on it must be completely decorated in floral sheeting or equivalent. Your float must display good taste.

The maximum height allowed for any unit will be 12 feet. Exceptions to this rule must be approved by the parade committee. The maximum width allowed for any unit will be 22 feet.

Personnel walking with a float must be in costume and appropriate to the theme of the Bavarian Festival Parade. When in doubt, wear German-style attire. The number of people who ride the float may be limited for safety reasons.

NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES MAY BE CONSUMED OR DISPLAYED DURING THE PARADE!

DISTRIBUTION OR THROWING OF CANDY, SAMPLES, COUPONS, LEAFLETS, PAMPHLETS, BALLOONS OR ANY OTHER ITEM WILL NOT BE ALLOWED!

NO SHOOTING OF CANNONS OR GUNS AT ANY TIME!

SHOOTING WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID WILL NOT BE ALLOWED!

Every float must be equipped with a Class ABC fire extinguisher.

All Queens, Princesses, etc. MUST BE accompanied by a float or appropriate vehicle.

All horse units MUST PROVIDE a clean-up crew.

All vehicles must be clean and in good running condition. Vehicles that do not meet the standards of the committee will not be in the parade.

Only SEATED, elected officials INVITED by the Parade Committee will be allowed to participate in the parade.

The parade committee reserves the right to change or waive any of the above rules on a case-by-case basis. The committee reserves the right to reject any entry that is not in good taste or in the best interest and spirit of the Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival.

It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED each entrant bring their own water for both people and animals.

The Parade Committee requests this application be filled our completely and legibly-in detail- with an accompanying photo of your unit to help determine your acceptance, placement in the parade, and for use by the media in their extensive coverage of the parade.  Any changes made after approval of application must be submitted to the Parade Committee for final acceptance.  The deadline for receipt of entry applications is May 1, 2012.  Any entries received after that date will be reviewed by the Parade Committee at their discretion.  Thank You!
